Finally summer has arrived! Hooray! I love sunny summer days but actually it can be a real struggle to keep your little one cool in this heat. Some little ones struggle sleeping when it is this warm and so I wanted to send you my top tips for keeping them and their bedrooms nice and cool.
1) Early in the morning when the air is at it’s coolest open windows and curtains to try and circulate some cool air. By 9am latest shut any blinds and curtains to stop the room being heated by solar gains. In our house we also close the windows at this time (more on this later).
2) Use a fan in your little ones room to circulate the air. Just make sure it isn’t pointed directly at your little one and is safely out of their reach.
3) Reduce layers to just a nappy or a nappy and a vest to avoid your little one getting too hot and remove any bedding or blankets from their cot.
4) Monitor the temperature of the room. The ideal temperature for little ones is between 16-20 ⁰ and I know that is almost impossible to achieve when it is really hot so just do your best to keep the room cool. The bodies core temperature has to drop by a few degrees to induce sleep so a cool room actually helps your little one to nod off!
5) In our house we actually shut all the doors and windows during the day. We have found if the windows are open it draws hot air into the house rather allowing cool air in. Once we get to early evening and the temperature drops we then open the windows to get some fresh air in.
I hope you found the above helpful. For more free sleep tips head over to my Facebook or Instagram pages for more information.
